iPad mini vs. Nexus 7

Currently, I have to make a decision about whether I should buy the new Nexus 7, designed and developed by google, or the iPad mini, designed and developed by Apple. Both devices belong to the category of tablets.

Tablets are mobile computer that are larger than a mobile phone, integrated into a flat touchscreen, and primarily operated by touching the screen instead of using a kind of physical keyboard. Those two companies (Apple & google) have already battled each other by acquiring new customers or customers from each other. For instance, the Galaxy Nexus by google is the competing product to the iPhone by Apple.

Let´s take a look at some details:

Dimensions

The iPad mini is a bit wider and much thinner than the Nexus and another advantage is that the iPad mini has narrower bezels on the side, which Apple used to keep the form small, but with a larger display.

Weight

There are no big differences with regards to the weight. Both tablets are eminently suitable for one-handed use.

Display

The iPad mini offers an extra 0.9 inch of diagonal compared to the Nexus (7.9" to 7.0"). However, the Nexus 7 has better resolution and a higher pixel density (216 to 163 pixels per inch).

Processor

This round goes to google, because the Nexus comes with a quad core Tegra 3 chip (1.3 GHz), whereas the iPad mini has just an A5 dual core chip (1 GHz) - which first appeared in the iPad 2.

Battery

Both tablets have almost the same performance with approximately 10 hours of operating life.

Pricing

This point goes to the Nexus 7, because it is $60 cheaper compared to the iPad mini ($329 vs. $269).

To sum up, the final score is 2:2. The iPad mini won two rounds and the Nexus 7 won two rounds and two rounds were tied. Finally, the help of this comparison did not simplify my decision.

But I will make my decision within the next few days. The point is that this buying decision is not spontaneous and I hope that my overall feeling after I have bought the product will be beneficial, or in other words my consumer satisfaction will be positive.
